This smaller study came from the same Smiths Beach walk as the larger painting. I was drawn to the way the water ran back across the sand, creating long reflections in blue, violet and warm apricot. The colour combinations felt unusual but completely natural in that late light. Painting the study helped me understand the scene before returning to it on a larger scale. |
