I painted this from a close view of the echinaceas growing in Yarra Valley. The flowers overlap, lean and turn towards the light, which gives the piece a lovely sense of life. I wanted the pinks and purples to sit naturally among the muted greens and warm background colours, just as they did when I first photographed them.
